Operator Spotlight: Paul and Kellie Dwyer from All Party Photo Booths 

Paul Dwyer and his partner Kellie, the owners of All Party Photo Booths recently sat down to join us for our "Operator Spotlight" series. All Party Photo Booths are a Melbourne based Photo Booth operator who service the surrounding areas of Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong in Victoria. They have a real passion for the industry and love to look after their clients.

 

When was the first time you can remember being in a photo booth?

The first time I jumped in a photo booth was at my fiance and I's engagement party 2 years ago. It was seeing the success of it there, how much fun everyone had in it and the difficult search for a good photo booth that gave my partner and I the idea to start our own photo booth business.

Describe what you believe it is about photo booths which makes them so popular?

Like fancy dress, when people put on a wig or crazy glasses, they become masked & seem to become another character and come to life! There's a little bit of crazy in all of us and people love being silly and having a laugh at themselves. Combine that aspect with the "selfie" phenomenon of this day & age and you have a recipe for a great time!
 

Is there one photo booth hire you have done that has stood out above all the rest and why?

Probably not just one. Most of our events are weddings & each one is a very special event. We are so honored when a bride chooses us to be a part of their special day. We will bend over backwards to make sure their hire is perfect because you only have one shot to get it right. My fiance and I are the booth attendants at all our events and we feel so lucky to be able to bring so much fun and laughter to peoples special day. We stand there and listen to these peoples speeches and hear their stories and for a moment have been invited in to someones life. It's more than just an event, we take it quite personally & we've met some wonderful people. What an amazing job we have when we get paid to bring a little bit of happiness and joy to someones lives. We love it!

 

What do you believe it is about your photo booth hire business that sets it apart from your local competition?

My fiance and I made our own photo booth from scratch. When searching for a photo booth for our engagement party, we found a lot to be the same, cold, square booth. We wanted something different & elegant so we made our own that is different to a lot of other companies that buy their booth from a manufacturer. This gave us an opportunity to research and choose all our own components, from the best printer and touch-screen to DSLR camera and software. I don't know how our local competitors go with customer service, but our photo booth is our baby & all we can do is our best to deliver the best possible service we can to our customers.
 

What are some of the challenges of running a photo booth hire business?

We run our photo booth business on top of our full-time jobs plus we have three kids, so the main challenge is working EVERY weekend! On top of the the actual hire times, we spend time designing photo strips, cleaning & maintaining the booth and props, set-up & pack-ups. If we have 2 events in a weekend, we could easily find ourselves investing the entire weekend in them.
 

What's your best tip you can give someone who is considering hiring a photo booth for their important event?

Get in early! Our calendar is booked out months in advance and we often have to say "no" to people wanting to hire in the next 2 weeks! Do your research! Compare prices and quality. Check the companies ratings and don't be afraid to ask questions and tell the business what you want.
 

We still aren't sure how Paul and Kellie manage to juggle full time jobs, 3 kids and a successful photo booth rental business but they do! We are grateful to them for fitting us into their busy schedule.
