Operator Spotlight: Felicity from Black Tie Photobooths

I've just got back for an amazing few days in Las Vegas at the worlds biggest photo booth expo "PBX". Before I left I was lucky enough to squeeze in some time to interview Felicity, one of the owners of Black Tie Photo Booths from Lismore in NSW. Black Tie are a long running (5yrs aka photo booth veteran) and well respected operator who offer a variety of open and enclosed photo booth for hire and also service the Tweed Heads, Byron Bay, Grafton and Coffs Harbour, Brisbane and the Gold Coast regions.

When was the first time you can remember being in a photo booth?

It was at my dads wedding in 2013, at the time i had no interest in it. I used the booth once at the time I didn't take much notice that the attendant and company was terrible. The attendant sat in a corner on his phone, was not telling people about the guest book that was provided, no pens were available. Sadly my dad and step mum had a shocking experience with them but it has taught me a lot.

Describe what you believe it is about photo booths which makes them so popular?

I believe they are popular because they bring people together and create a fun an inviting atmosphere. At nearly every event when someone takes a photo and gets the print out they go back to their group and show off their photos and all have a laugh about it. Also the instant print outs is a big winner. People receive something immediately and its a feel good thing. Happy people makes the event more positive and happy and everyone has a better time.

Felicity Black Tie PhotoboothsHow long have your been a "photo boother" and what made you decide to become one?

3 years this month actually. Becoming a boother kind of happened because of good timing. I attended an event were a photo booth was hired, and the owner was a friend and she mentioned she wanted to stay at home with her child more. And i had just quit my job and voila I purchased two photo booths.

If you weren't a photo booth operator what would you be doing?

Ha, im sure id be in some kind of business ownership. I think i would be working in the Pizza or retail industry which is my background and a passion. now i just make pizzas at home ;)

What's your best tip you can give someone who is considering hiring a photo booth for their important event?

Do it! well do your research first, make sure the company you are considering hiring is reputable and insured. Also you should look at the quality of photos the photo booth operator takes. Photobooth Finder has some great options to sort through.

What's the funniest thing you have ever seen happen in a photo booth?

Oh gosh so many things, people often ask me this and my response always changes because people do loads of funny things. Especially after a few drinks. I will keep this response clean. I attended a wedding in a barn type location and the booth was well away from the reception, and about fifteen people were in the room with me about eight in the booth at the time they were on about photo two of four when someone farted. I don't think i have ever seen the booth empty so quickly and the strip is hilarious  a full booth, to laughing, to and empty booth. It was very funny and of course i discretely left the room to laugh.

Big thank you and much appreciation to Felicity for sharing some great stories and insights into her time thus far as a photo boother.
